Social media is awash with stories of our terminal decline, and whilst I fully accept all United fans' right to complain about the state that the team are currently in, most of the stories come from fans of other clubs. I begrudgingly have to admit that City and Liverpool are playing some of the best football they have ever played at the moment, but there are a significant number of their own fans who are ignoring this completely and filling their timelines and Tweets about Manchester United. Thats because we are Manchester United, the most successful CLUB in the English game. And that is what this is about, The Club. The team comes and goes. Ferguson went through many transitions in his time, and we all know that Busby built many great teams. Underpinning it all was the club. We made mistakes with a handful of managers, and we are certainly not going to go down the road of having almost as many ex managers as ex players like other clubs I could mention. We lost in the semi final of the League Cup. So what? We are in the last 16 of the Champions League and we are 7th in the Premier League. We are just about to sign Chelsea's player of the season for the past 2 years for our record fee, and I would not be surprised to see that record broken again in the summer. Its all about persepctive. We are not going to be playing lower division football any time soon, scrambling around in play offs to get to the second tier. We are not going to to tread the path of our Yorkshire rivals by spending beyond our means, we don't need to. (We have a lot of means, behind just the two Spanish giants and Bayern Munich in terms of revenue). We have a team in decline which is much easier to turn around than a club in decline, and we do not rely on a sugar daddy to provide our funds. We will be back bigger and stronger than ever, and in the meantime I would advise staying off other fans timelines, and let them continue with their comments about our team. Oscar Wilde once said "There is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." (or was it Monty Python). We are Manchester United. That is all.
